The 2021 Juicy Red from Trail Estate Winery is a vibrant, unconventional blend that defies traditional categories. Crafted from five grape varieties—Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, and Viognier—all sourced from the Grimsby Hillside Vineyard, this wine showcases innovative winemaking techniques. The Gewürztraminer was foot-stomped and fermented, then pumped over whole-cluster fermenting Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Riesling and Viognier were pressed whole-cluster and blended post-fermentation. The result is a juicy, crushable wine with a meaty, savoury nose featuring red berries, strawberry Twizzlers, earth, violets, black currants, and a subtle citrus note. On the palate, it offers cherry-raspberry, tart black fruits, zesty citrus, subtle tannins, and nervy acidity driving through the finish. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur (20 ppm), this wine is a dynamic representation of the Grimsby Hillside vineyard.
