Asparagus, a seasonal vegetable and a leafless member of the Lily family. The bud compact heads appears like a crown over the tall and slender stem with fleshy spears. It is sought for its succulent taste and tender texture.
Asparagus is also very low in sodium and has calcium and magnesium. The Phyto-nutrients along with the highly dense nutritional profile of asparagus have a number of health benefits. Always eat them fresh but if they have to be stored; they should be kept dry -tightly wrapped and while cooking, always lightly steam, rather than boil, to preserve the sodium and other minerals from boiling away.
